Solidarity Statement for the 2nd Congress of IKOHI - Indonesia
From FIND - Philippines
The Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearance (FIND), extends its warmest greetings and congratulations to IKOHI as you hold your 2nd Congress on 7-10 March 2006 in Indonesia. FIND is honored to be a witness of your organization's development since your establishment in 1998, and of being your colleague organization within AFAD.
On this noble occasion of IKOHI, we wish to reiterate our solidarity and support to your continuing work towards promoting human rights and attaining justice for victims of human rights violations particularly enforced or involuntary disappearances in your country. Your congress' theme, "Developing and Strengthening Organization of Victims of Human Rights Violation to Fight for Justice and Truth and Combating Impunity" is a very timely aim towards empowering victims' and families' organizations in the midst of the present political climate in the whole of the Asian region.
Consolidating members and networks, strengthening solidarity among victims, uniting platform, mission and vision for achieving justice, truth and reparation, and ending impunity.... these are the very aims of each and every human rights organization established anywhere in the world ... all with the end goal of putting an end to atrocities and violations of human rights
For we know only too well that the fight for truth, justice and redress for victims is a huge task ahead, having a strong organization is a potent tool in the long and arduous journey towards this end.
Thus, we continue to link arms with you and all the families' organizations of the world to work on combating impunity and to putting an end to the practice of making people disappear and making their families suffer in an endless wait.
In closing, we assure you of our wishes of success and of our deep solidarity to all of your officers and members, in your continuing struggle against the scourge of involuntary disappearances in your country. More power!
Yours sincerely on behalf of all the families of the disappeared in the Philippines,
(SGD) RAQUEL PACA-SANTOS
Secretary General
